North Yorkshire offers stunning country walks no matter the time of year. We are so lucky to live and work in the North Yorkshire National Park. Helmsley Castle. Explore the castle’s changing fortunes. From formidable fortress to battle-scarred ruins. Rievaulx Abbey, North Yorkshire is one of the most complete and impressive abbeys in Britain. Explore the atmospheric ruins, which are surrounded by stunning moorland, and visit the interactive museum to explore 900 years of history and view unique archaeological finds. Whitby Abbey. The moody and magnificent ruins of Whitby Abbey have drawn successive generations – from Saints to Dracula – to this site of settlement and religious devotion. Starting from the attractive market town of Helmsley, the trail heads across the inspirational, and sometimes vibrant heather moorland of the North York Moors, before reaching the coast at Saltburn. From here it’s a visual feast along the dramatic North Yorkshire coastline to Filey, passing old fishing villages and lively coastal towns, including Staithes and Whitby.
